MEET THE DIRECTORS

Mr. Ferguson holds a Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and a Master of Liberal Arts from Baker University School of Professional and Graduate Studies. He began his career with the Olathe Public Schools in 1985 and has been the Director of Orchestras at Olathe South High School since 1987. Under Mr. Ferguson's direction the Olathe South High School Orchestra has received consistent first division ratings at State Music Festival. The Orchestra has toured Southern California, Texas, Florida, Boston, Dallas, and most recently, Chicago. Mr. Ferguson is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the American String Teachers Association and the Kansas Music Educators Association. He is also one of the founding directors for the Olathe Youth Symphony Association, which is celebrating their 30th season this year.

Mrs. Carter is in her ninth year as Assistant Director of the Olathe South Orchestra. She holds a Bachelors of Music Education from Florida State University. She began her career with the Olathe Public Schools in 2000. She is a Strings Specialist with the district serving Olathe South High School, Brougham, Black Bob, Briarwood, and Sunnyside Elementaries. Mrs. Carter is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the American String Teachers Association and the Kansas Music Educators Association. Prior to working for the Olathe School District she was a private violin/viola instructor and taught Suzuki Violin at Johnson County Community College. She has also played in many area orchestras and churches.
